After another week of heavy rain this game was always in doubt - what seemed unplayable yesterday was actually acceptable but heavy today
A last minute rally round of the troops presented us with 13 players ready to get muddy!
Tom retained his place in goal and had little to do especially in the first half which saw us 7-0 up
However he remained alert and shows how he is not afraid to command his goal area and come out to clear when needed
In a game where I stopped counting corners for us at 20 we could have scored 20 but for some inconclusive finishing and some excellent goal keeping from the Beechwood keeper who was arguably man of the match for the game with some good shot stopping from range to prevent Harry scoring more and some point blank blocks and dives to feet to deny everyone
Jake opened the account within 5 minutes after a good effort was stopped by the keeper only for him to follow up with a tap in. Andrew ran well and crossed for jakes second which was an easy tap in. Corners rained in and accounted for 2 own goals, Joey found the top corner from range and Harry and Jake both finished very well to score after runs . Dave rotated the team throughout with Emil coming on as a winger and Owen taking his place in defence
Jake added his 4th at the beginning of the 2nd half and had a rest for some of the second half
Harry cleverly noticed the keeper for once out of position and finished well from range into an open goal. The 2nd half remained at 9-0 until near the end as Stokesley stopped passing and got perhaps more bogged down in the mud - but this didnt stop Harry and Emil hitting the cross bar only for the follow up to go begging
jake replaced Emil , who had showed how good a shot he can have, towards the end and added the final goal through persistance after the keeper failed to hold his initial shot
10-0 - could have been far more - perhaps should have been - but with a very sticky pitch this was a good result.
The strikers continue to push too far forwards, can get in each others way and need constant reminders not to stray off side and to work as a team - one of them needs to be on the penalty spot so the ball can be pulled back to them rather than 4 or 5 stokesley players being on the opposition goalline! Nothing wrong wlth all being keen to score but sometimes we add to the opposition defence and merely get in each others way!
